Bountiful Brews and Tasty Tours with Black Hops Brewing

To get a genuine taste of what’s happening on the Gold Coast these days, you’ll need to look beyond the beautiful beaches and glitterstrip, because there’s things brewing in the backstreets that are causing something of a sensation.

There’s a revolution in craft beers, which is seeing them flowing freely from taps and cans everywhere across Australia in recent years, and one standout local independent brewery is riding the crest of this wave with the kind of passion and vitality that breeds success.

Black Hops Brewing, which was developed out of a whacky idea for an Eggnog Stout during a beer-fuelled conversation at a hinterland pub back in 2014, has become a full-time occupation for three mates with a personal and professional interest in redefining Australian beers.

Now with two breweries and taprooms (one at Burleigh Heads and one at Biggera Waters), Black Hops is doing its best to keep up with the growing demand for popular products like their Pale Ale, Session Ale, Lager and the one that started it all – their infamous Eggnog Stout.

Add to that their many small batch monthly special brews, which they invent to test the limits of both their skills and the taste buds of their many fans and followers, and you have a business that is booming and gaining interest Australia wide.

This leads us to the subject of their sell-out, monthly, 2-hour brewery tours at the unique Black Hops II brewery in Biggera Waters, which takes you behind the scenes of one of Queensland’s biggest independent breweries.

It is an integral part of the Black Hops philosophy and culture that they share their knowledge and passion for both the beer and the brewing process, as well as how it has all been financed and grown from the ground up as an organisation.

They offer a truly holistic introduction to independent brewing that will teach you the craft behind the business and the key ingredients of success, as much as it will about how to create beer that looks, smells and tastes amazing.

Of course, one has the opportunity to sample many beers during the tour, including their popular and more unique beers, as they illustrate the inner workings of a functioning brewery.

And who doesn’t like to learn something new while tasting a tantalising array of beers?

The last word:

The cost of entry for the tour is a small fee to pay for an outstanding all-round experience, especially for anyone who loves a beer and enjoys stimulating the brain and taste buds at the same time.
