What initially started out as a hobby has now spawned into a successful and thriving artistic enterprise that continues to grow despite the hardships of COVID.
“By Womankinde began as a way to keep myself busy and take my mind off everything that was happening with my beauty business at the time,” says Shannae.
“It was tough, but I decided to get creative – I’ve always been artistic and had a passion for home decor and design,” she says.
“Candle making seemed like the perfect outlet for all the stress I was experiencing.
“I started posting a few of my candle creations on Womankinde Beauty’s Instagram page and a bunch of clients started purchasing them.”
Fast forward two years, By Womankinde has its own Instagram account, a pending website for her increasing online orders, and is continuing to thrive and grow.
The business has expanded its candle range and includes special-edition Mother’s Day and Christmas packs, as well as its popular Self-Care packs containing By Womankinde’s luxurious Elevate bath soak crystals, gua sha facial roller and Mood Mist spray.
Shannae works closely with each of her customers, helping them choose the perfect colour, scent and design before beautifully packaging up their creations for a speedy delivery.
This process ensures customers get exactly what they are looking for in their home or space of choice, and Shannae says her clients enjoy the creative input and more personalised experience.
“Our most coveted scent has to be Japanese Honeysuckle – it’s a fresh, subtle scent that people can’t get enough of,” says Shannae.
“Popular colours of choice include our subtle sage green, white and creamy nude wax dyes – they’re simple, yet incredibly sophisticated and chic.”
Each By Womankinde candle uses a different mould for pouring the wax, scent and colour dye to create a unique and individual bespoke piece.
“For me, creating an interesting design with a great scent and colour that complements the client’s space makes my job so special and keeps things interesting every day.”
Shannae draws her inspiration from meandering through home decor shops or scrolling through endless Pinterest accounts.
“There are so many amazing ideas on this platform which inspires me to keep going and create new pieces,” she says.
“My favourite By Womankinde design is the Entwined candle set for its understated elegance and beauty, but the Palma and cute Bubble collections are also extremely popular.”
