The future is (nearly) here

The late 1970s (for those who remember) was a far simpler time when social media, space travel and pandemics were mere science fiction.

1979 was also a great year to anchor this riotously retro ad to unveil the all-new Mercedes EQG, the electric variant of its hugely popular G-Wagon, and ironically the same year the model was first released.

The campaign for the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG, released last year at the Munich Motor Show, takes us on a journey through space and time, into a world beyond imagination: Future 2021.

Created by German creative Antoni, a group that builds tailor-made agencies exclusively for one client, the two-minute kitsch commercial places the slick-looking electric concept car into a future utopia, where it doesn’t look too out of place.

Daimler has confirmed that it plans to launch the Mercedes EQG in 2024, so the future isn’t here just yet.

Oh, and was the reference to May 4th at the beginning on purpose? You decide for yourself.
