No kitten around

Attention all cat lovers! The creators of this Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class commercial opted for some seriously cheeky cat-itude and feline-friendly fun when producing this advert in 2014.

With a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.23, at the time, the CLA held the record for the most ‘slippery’ bodywork among production cars – a feature Mercedes-Benz could not ignore and cleverly promoted with the help of sleeping stunt cat, William.

Accompanied by a kooky and recognisable soundtrack, Rossini’s Duetto buffo di due gatti, which translates to ‘two cats’ funny duet’, the opening scene presents viewers with a dozing kitty sleeping soundly on the front bonnet of the sleek CLA coupé.

Suddenly, a light breeze blows, gently stirring the fur of our feline protagonist who ever-so-smoothly begins sliding across the surface of the world’s most aerodynamic production car, gliding effortlessly over the windscreen, across the rooftop and down to the rear.

Whether you’re a cat lover or not, this simple and light-hearted demonstration of aerodynamics-in-action perfectly flaunts the CLA’s sleek contours as William slides over the compact Saloon.

It all makes for some seriously cute viewing, but cleverly highlights the CLA as one of the most aerodynamic shapes of any production car – meaning it uses less fuel and creates less noise as it purrs along the road.
