custom_padding=&#8221;|0px|||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_tablet=&#8221;||20px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_phone=&#8221;||20px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_last_edited=&#8221;on|tablet&#8221;]<span>Commencing in 2004, the stalwart d\u2019Arcy Doyle Art Award has established itself as the Gold Coast\u2019s longest running painting prize, returning to the historic Mudgeeraba Town Hall from 22 June to 3 July. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Named after one of Australia\u2019s most prolific artists and affectionately named \u2018the Doyles\u2019, the award carries a sizable $20,000 prize pool across its three competition categories \u2013 Landscape, Figurative and Still Life. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Event Director Gillian Grove said the annual award and exhibition has become a prominent fixture in Australia\u2019s cultural calendar, contributing to the success of artists from around the country. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor almost two decades, the Doyles Award has stood for inclusivity, participation and the celebration of all that is wonderful about Australian art, and is open to artists of all ages, abilities and styles,\u201d says Gillian.<\/span>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;3_5&#8243; text_font_size=&#8221;17px&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;|0px|||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_tablet=&#8221;||20px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_phone=&#8221;||20px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_last_edited=&#8221;on|tablet&#8221;]<span>\u201cOur coveted landscape category boasts a $10,000 first prize and, if past years are anything to go by, we are expecting to exhibit over 500 artworks on opening night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The award is named in honour of the famous d\u2019Arcy William Doyle, who was born in Ipswich in 1932, and went on to become one of our nation\u2019s best-loved landscape and historical artists. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Doyle\u2019s artworks reflect his deep and abiding affinity for the bush, with many of his paintings depicting bucolic scenes of Australian farming and rural life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One of his most famous paintings \u201cThe Cricket Match\u201d was subject to a comparatively new marketing strategy involving the production and sale of limited-edition personally autographed prints. <\/span>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;2_5,3_5&#8243; text_font_size=&#8221;17px&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;|0px|||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_tablet=&#8221;||20px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_phone=&#8221;||20px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding_last_edited=&#8221;on|tablet&#8221;]<span>This marketing scheme proved so successful that at one point an estimated 1 in 10 Australian homes possessed at least one Doyle artwork on a household item such as calendars and biscuit tins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 1973, Doyle settled in Mudgeeraba with his wife Jennifer Doyle and their two daughters, continuing to work until his death in 2001. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Today, Doyle\u2019s memory lives on through his timeless paintings and this art award, which endeavors to honour his legacy and inspire a new generation of artists.<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Doyles Award is growing bigger each year, but our goal has always remained the same \u2013 to encourage everyone to participate,\u201d says Gillian.&nbsp;
