Latest Burleigh café a travel lover’s dream

The newest foodie hotspot making waves on the Gold Coast is former Paddock owner’s latest venture – Tarte Bakery & Café.

Located in the heart of Burleigh Heads, Tarte is a travel lover’s dream, pulling inspiration from quaint Parisian bistros and antique New York establishments.

White subway tiles adorn the walls and the floors are covered in petite black and white penny rounds.

Sumptuous brass features are peppered throughout the space, as well as accents of duck egg blue, charcoal and marble.

Tarte really is a lovely little portal to the past, reminiscent of some of the centuries-old bistros from continental Europe. Think Wes Anderson-esque in style and Gourmet Traveller in taste.

Many of the fixtures and fittings are antiques and collectables imported from Europe, such as the 100-year-old front door handles from an old London pub, mid-century light fittings from Amsterdam, vintage train luggage racks and repurposed timber counter from an old movie theatre.

The Italian piazza-style forward-facing seats are perfectly posited for people-watching while you enjoy a SingleO coffee, pastry or one of their many mouth-watering meals on the menu.

The all-day breakfast features a range of delicious bagels with various accompaniments, Turkish eggs and a super yummy jalapeno breakfast burrito.

For lunch you can’t go past one of their scrumptious tartines (the whipped ricotta, roast grape, honey and thyme is our personal favourite), the French onion soup or a hearty nourish bowl.

But make sure you get their early or be prepared to wait, the ever-popular café really doesn’t stop.

Tarte Bakery & Café is located in leafy Burleigh Heads on the corner of West Street and West Burleigh Road and is open from 6:30am – 3pm, 7 days a week.
